Beginning of the end or end of the beginning?

How appropriate that President what's his name was in West Virginia tonight.

It is the state of my birth and raising and I love it dearly, but it is a broken and defeated place. Just as the President's presidency is broken and defeated.

Manafort was convicted and Cohen pleaded guilty. Two of the most important players in the drama of the last few years. Manafort is considering taking a plea deal to avoid spending the rest of his life in prison. Cohen is ready to co-operate with Robert Mueller.

This could be the beginning of the end. Or, probably, given how deep and wide all this is, it is the end of the beginning and months lay ahead of us of more revelations and more plea deals and finally, in it's own time--a report that strips bare the whole administration for all the see.

There are those that nothing would matter to--they idolize our President in a strange and irrational way.

But things are bubbling up that most people will view and abhor and wonder how we got here, to this place in history. And how can we correct the mistakes we've made as a nation.

"Almost Heaven, West Virginia", was the beginning of John Denver's song. And for me, growing up in the southern-most county of that state was 'almost heaven'. I miss it and love it though the end of Coal (as it should end--in spite of what our President says and proclaims) the the opioid epidemic and the escape of all who can escape, have made West Virginia and Appalachia a waste-land of sorts.

So the President being there on a day that begins to lay waste to his administration was apropos. Seemed right, in some weird way.

God help us in all of this. Please.....
