Forgiveness

I'm helping lead a 3 session workshop on Forgiveness for the Mastery Foundation. All the participants are in Ireland, so the virtual sessions begin at 12:30 for me and 5:30 in Ireland. Two handouts for Saturday's session might be helpful for you.

Forgiving Oneself What makes it difficult to forgive ourselves is our resistance to being forgiven. Those things we want to forgive ourselves for are often things we relate to as unforgiveable, not necessarily because they are so big, but rather because they occur for us as some violation of who we are or some shortfall in who we want to be in life. The moment we are willing to be forgiven, a healing begins. We will have begun the process of authentically forgiving ourselves. Since the first difficulty is being willing to be forgiven, we rephrase the questions to start there: 1. Are you willing to be forgiven? If yes, then, are you willing to forgive yourself? Can you have compassion for yourself and your own suffering; transcending any feelings you are experiencing of disappointment, diminishment, shame, guilt, or humiliation? 2. Are you willing to be forgiven totally? If yes, then, are you willing to forgive yourself totally? Not for everything you have ever done, but for everything associated with the specific incident? 3. Are you willing to be forgiven absolutely? If yes, then, are you willing to forgive yourself absolutely? Can you take a stand for your own power and dignity? 4. Are you willing to be forgiven unconditionally? If yes, then, are you willing to forgive yourself unconditionally? Can you forgive yourself even if you fall short the same way in the future?

❑ Over the next two weeks, identify an opportunity to forgive yourself for something. Then take yourself through the four steps of forgiving, using the Forgiving Oneself handout. You will not be asked to share with anyone else what it is you forgive yourself for. On the Zoom conference, however, we will ask what the results were for you and what questions you have about applying the process to forgive oneself. ❑ Keep a daily forgiveness journal that covers each of three general areas: • What came up on today that was an opportunity for me to forgive myself or others? Did I forgive? What did I learn from that? • Did I support someone else in forgiving today? What happened? What did I learn from that? • Where did I notice that forgiveness is missing? ❑ Practice Centering or a period of intentional silence each day for 10 to 20 minutes. In addition, please write down any questions you have about the forgiveness process or anything you notice that might be useful in our development of this program.

Texas and Mississippi

Texas and Mississippi ended their mask mandate and, in many ways went back to pre-Covid practices--restaurants, bars, fitness centers and the like.

One more reason I don't ever want to live in Texas or Mississippi!

How crazy can you be?

The vaccines are coming out (Bern and I get ours Friday) and it is so important to keep up safety mandates until we reach some form of herd immunity.

Keep an eye on cases in those two states over the next few weeks.

I'd bet my last dollar than they go up and up....

What I can't get my head around....

The former president and those who love him.

Anti-maskers and anti-vaccine folks.

Saudi Arabia.

Those who don't favor raising the minimum wage.

Anyone who roots for the Red Sox.

Fox News (except for Chris Wallace).

Proud Boys and all the Right-Wing groups.

People who don't believe we have a racial problem in this country.

Those against immigration--we all (except Native Americans) came from somewhere else (and even Native Americans did too--too long ago to think about.)

Marjorie Taylor Green.

Extreme Christian Evangelicals.

Ted Cruise.

Climate change deniers.

Those who believe the presidential election was rigged.

Vegans.

California.

You won't believe what he did....

Well, yes you will believe it, no doubt.

Within weeks of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi in October of 2018, our Intelligence Agencies sent a report to the then President implicating the crown prince of Saudi Arabia in the murder.

The then President did not release the report to keep from blaming his good friend.

Two years and a few months later, the Biden Administration made the report public. Americans and their allies were enraged.

Although their are lots of ties between the U.S. and the Saudis, many people are calling for action--withholding military aid, condemning the Saudi government, imposing strict sanctions.

For two years, the former president kept this from us.

Do you believe that?

Of course you do.

That was just part of his pattern.

Alas.

I have nothing to write about

Maybe the pandemic is finally getting to me.

I have nothing to write.

I feel fine, though I still itch that three doctors so far can't explain--no rash and mostly in bed...I itch.

I am in touch with two friends--Chris and George--from decades ago. They used to call me 'Bomber' and I had forgotten that nickname until Chris tracked me down and emailed me.

I tend to have 'serial relationships'--I leave people behind and find new people. What a joy to hear from these two old friends--both priests--who worked with me in West Virginia.

"Bomber"--I'll have to ask them why they called me that when we zoom.

I'm co-leading a zoom workshop on Forgiveness. We had out first round, with 13 folks--all from Ireland--last Saturday. We'll meet again on March 6 as a group. In between, we're matched up and have to have a conversation with another about whether we'll willing to forgive. Deep Stuff.

I think I mentioned Bern and I have vaccine appointments on March 5. I can't wait!

I'll be doing a virtual service at Trinity, Milton for March 14 and, hopefully, an in person service there for Easter. I may become their part-time priest when things are a bit closer to 'normal'--whatever 'normal' will be for us....

If you haven't watched "Shitt$ Creek" on Netflix, you really. really, really should.

I love it more than anything I've ever seen on TV.

And I have nothing to write about....

In the 40's seems balmy

It was in the 40's today.

It felt great.

Temperatures, if you believe weather people, will be in the 40's--maybe even 50--this week.

Lots of snow will melt.

Hopefully Spring in on it's way.

All the ice-cycles are gone and snow is only on the houses on area's outside.

February has been a cold and snowy month.

I'll looking so forward to warmth.

What I need now is warmth.

Time out

For the time being (and maybe longer) I won't be putting You Tube on line.

Thanks to all who have watched them. You have to be 'reading' until, and if, I'm on You Tube again.

During the pandemic, I've been reading a lot!

Of course, I 'read a lot' before that.

Honestly, except for not going to church in person, Covid 19 hasn't changed my life much.

Novels galore, time on line blogging and playing Hearts, cooking every other night, taking out the trash and re-cycling and Brigit.

I haven't missed much except seeing family and friends in person and up close.

I've missed that so much...

I have an appointment a week from Friday for my first vaccine.

Things will get better, eventually.

Until then, I'll read a lot.

After then, I'll read a lot.

I read a lot....
